Sure Nevada and Mississippi and might have more land-based books, but only in New Jersey can bettors roll the dice on a 3-leg parlay without once having to visit the casino. Getting started at NJ online sportsbooks
Depending on whether you’re already involved in the NJ online casino or poker scene, it is going to take anywhere from zero seconds to no more than 5 minutes to place your initial bet. That is, pending you meet a couple of eligibility requirements:
Under 21? Hold all bets It doesn’t matter how old you might be, if you are under the age of 21, you cannot register an internet sports betting account in New Jersey. This is the identical age condition employed by Atlantic City casinos and the state’s online gaming and poker sites. 18-year-olds might need to stick to betting on the ponies and the lottery.
Both feet in New Jersey
Players do not have to automatically be in New Jersey to register and fund their sportsbook accounts, but in order to play real-money, they need to get both feet planted in the Garden State. Note, that does not mean that they need to hold home in New Jersey, instead they merely need to be physically located within its borders.
Therefore a bettor out of a neighboring state like Pennsylvania or New York may view the New Jersey lines (on most sites), register and fund an account then head over to that Starbucks right across the edge to place real-money wagers, in so long as they have an established Wi-Fi or 4G connection.
Registering an account
For those involved in daily fantasy or NJ online casino/poker, registration on many online sportsbooks is a cinch. That is because many operators have woven their sport gambling sites into their existing platforms. Have a Play SugarHouse casino account? It’s not necessary to register to your sportsbook. Same is true for DraftKings DFS account holders, and those enrolled with Betfair Casino, which uses the same registration info as FanDuel Sportsbook. Easy.
Registration SSN
Only the last four digits of your SSN required!
For the rest, registration is a simple two-step process, first requiring that gamers enter some details in their individual, such as their social security number (but generally only the last four digits). Then their information is vetted via a rigorous verification procedure, used to make sure that player identities are protected from any shady deeds. This process takes just a few seconds, and then players are free to make their first deposit.
Funding an account
While many online sportsbooks at New Jersey offer no-deposit bonuses for new players, those who wish to create more than just a few wagers will probably need to make a deposit. Here is the fantastic news: Depositing funds onto a NJ online sportsbook is easy, largely because most operators have been successfully managing payment processing for ages. Even the kinks, by and large, have been worked out.
Bettors will find that just about every sportsbook takes a variety of payment methods including ACH, credit/debit cards, prepaid card options, and PayPal, with all transactions processing near instantaneously. Additionally, there are a multitude of approaches to get money off the website, with quick turnaround times. So no need to worry if that +1000 bet comes from and you want to lock up the win.
Word to the wise: If first funding an NJ online sports gambling account, make sure you use one of the hyperlinks on this page or on our review pages to make sure that you get the utmost welcome bonus for new players.

Mobile programs: iOS and Android
Integration ties: Betfair Casino (wallet), FanDuel Daily Fantasy (desktop platform)
Special features: In-play, cash out, lively promotional schedule To say that FanDuel online sportsbook has a lot going for it could be a pretty gross understatement. Forgetting about its massive daily fantasy database for an instant, FanDuel recently merged with industry sharp Paddy Power Betfair (forming the FanDuel Group), which means it has one of the most skillful sportsbook vets in its own corner. Together, and with a bit of help from IGT, they’ve created a book that’s largely loved by the NJ sports gambling community, and of course the team at US Bets as well.

Welcome bonus: Matched free bet up to $500
Tech partners: Kambi
Mobile programs: iOS and Android
Integration ties: DraftKings Daily Fantasy (platform, partial wallet)
Special characteristics: In-play, cash out
Surprisingly, it was daily fantasy operator DraftKings and not an Atlantic City brand which launched the first online sports betting site in New Jersey. This first-mover status, along with DK’s crazy big user database, relationship with advanced technology supplier Kambi, and aggressive marketing has paid off big, as DraftKings is no question that the industry’s early market share leader. Whether it is going to remain on top remains a significant question, as rivalry is becoming fierce, as well as the”juice” on DraftKings trends a bit higher comparative to other websites.
DraftKings Sportsbook on desktop and Android Interesting fact: Bettors on DraftKings may use their everyday fantasy contest winnings to wager on sports. BetStars NJ
Launch date: September 13, 2018
Welcome bonus: As much as $500 in free bets
Tech spouses: The Stars Group (parent company)
Mobile programs: iOS and Android
Integration ties: PokerStars NJ (wallet, mobile platform)
Particular characteristics: In-play, cash out, Spin & Bet
BetStars is no stranger to the internet sports gambling space, having started an international merchandise in 2015 which has increased faster than Lebron James’ net value. It is also the sister brand of a tiny online poker site that you may have heard of: PokerStars. Admittedly, BetStars NJ — licensed under Resorts Digital — has not made much noise however, due in part to its late launch on iOS and the lack of a PC platform. But it’s making up for lost time by hurling more promotions than you can shake a stick at. That, together with its slick user interface, cutesy game titles such as Spin & Bet, and strong branding guide us to believe it is going attract a fair number of punters.
BetStars NJ for Android
Interesting fact: BetStars NJ enjoys to provide increased odds on 3-leg NFL parlays. Be on the lookout for these Super Boosts.
Play SugarHouse Sports
Launch date: August 23, 2018

Tech partners: Kambi
Mobile apps: iOS and Android
Integration ties: Perform SugarHouse Casino (wallet, platform)
Special characteristics: In-play, cash out, complete cellular integration
After Play SugarHouse, managed by Rush Street Interactive, burst upon the NJ online casino arena in September 2016, it had been pretty much an afterthought. But players immediately noticed that the site did almost every facet of iGaming greater than anyone else. Suffice it to say, the website warms up, and we expect its fully incorporated sportsbook to perform quite well too. Beyond its leading reputation, Play SugarHouse provides a lot of bets (both pre-game and dwell ), a competitive and easy-to-clear welcome bonus, free bingo games, along with a loyalty program that actually matters. And now that it is aligned with Monmouth Park it can offer wagers on NBA games — it couldn’t perform while partnered with Golden Nugget AC.

Fun fact: The number of available in-play stakes for any specific contest is typically from the dozens, or even hundreds.
888sport NJ
Launch date: September 10, 2018
Welcome bonus: $10 free + 100% up to $500 (6x playthrough)
Tech partners: Kambi
Mobile apps: iOS and Android
Integration ties: 888casino, 888poker (wallet, loose ties to platform)
Particular characteristics: In-play, cash out
Much like BetStars NJ, 888sport was established in other jurisdictions long before it set sail to the U.S. to not mention, parent firm 888 Holdings, partnered with Caesars in Atlantic City, was an active participant at the NJ iGaming marketplace since 2013, supporting both online casino (888casino) and poker (888poker) websites. All this bodes favorably for 888sport NJ’s potential, as does its partnership with Kambi, heaps of gambling markets, and slick interface. But the playthrough requirements on bonuses are tough, and a number of the traces have something to be desired, so we do wonder just how large a market it will carve out.
888sport NJ desktop computer and mobile views Fun fact: 888sport is just one of the very few NJ online sports gambling sites where gamers can land a bonus without needing to commit a nickel.
Caesars Sportsbook
Launch date: September 6, 2018
Welcome bonus: $10 free + 100% up to $300 (casino just, 10x playthrough on slots)
Tech partners: Scientific Games
Mobile apps: iOS and Android
Integration ties: Caesars Casino (wallet and stage )
Special features: complete cellular integration, make Total Rewards credits on line For a business which has plenty of experience in the cellular sports gambling sphere, Caesars convinced disappointed with the initial launch of its online sportsbook in New Jersey. The traces are positive, undoubtedly, but there’s simply not enough of these, such as no in-play option. That said, the preparation of a solid app was set up, since the sportsbook has already been integrated into Caesars’ popular internet casino app, with sport wagers awarding Total Rewards level and rewards credits. The cashier is also top-notch, including PayPal, ACH payments and a slew of other alternatives. There’s just no sports special welcome package and very little to wager , and that needs to change.
Caesars NJ Sportsbook — desktop computer and mobile app Fun Fact: Sports bettors may redeem their earned online Total Rewards rewards credits for onsite cash or for use in any of the nearly 40 Total Gains casinos.
playMGM Sportsbook
Launch date: August 22, 2018
Welcome bonus: None
Tech partners: IGT (tech), GVC (joint venture)
Mobile apps: iOS and Android
Integration ties: playMGM Casino (wallet)
Special features: In-play
What do you get when you combine one of the biggest casino brands in the world (who happens to support a renowned mobile sports gaming program in Nevada), a leading gaming operator in GVC, and tech given by IGT? Turns out, you get a fairly substandard app. Yes, playMGM Sportsbook is serviceable, offering a fair number of betting markets, strong lines, along with also a shared wallet with playMGM Casino. However, the absence of a unique welcome bonus, in-play, and really any sense of innovation holds it all back. We expect improvements in the near future, which will include a desktop program, but for the time being, there just isn’t anything special here.

Fun Fact: playMGM sportsbook users can make freeplay rewards at playMGM Casino.

Particular features: In-play
In just a short time period, William Hill has established itself as a dominant force in the New Jersey sports gambling market. Already it functions branded publications at Monmouth Park, Ocean Resort Casino, and Tropicana Casino. Complementing its land-based books is a sports wagering program available for iOS, Android, and desktopcomputer. The program isalso, well… average, encouraging a good number of betting markets, in-play, and offering an adequate cashier. There’s just nothing dazzling about it, at least not yet.
William Hill NJ on desktop computer and mobile
Fun fact: William Hill is the only operator in New Jersey tasked with over one land-based partner.
Land-based sportsbooks at New Jersey
In the event the many online sports betting sites out there in New Jersey are not enough to whet your wagering appetite, or if gaming over the Internet simply is not your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that New Jersey plays host to an array of land-based novels. And good news for you personally Central and Northern New Jerseyans, these brick & mortar books are not confined solely to Atlantic City, as traditional casino gaming is.
Casino sportsbooks
Currently, seven out of Atlantic City’s nine existing casinos comprise sportsbooks. Some are bigger (and more permanent) than others, however, we guess that as the business ages, so too will the AC sportsbooks mature.

The state’s horsemen will also be heavily involved with the sports betting industry, together with Monmouth Park and its enthusiastic operator Dennis Drazin cutting the ribbon on New Jersey’s first land-based sportsbook, the Monmouth Park Sports Book by William Hill, on June 14, 2018.
This was followed exactly one month after by the debut of the FanDuel Sportsbook in the Meadowlands. Ever since, the Meadowlands has become the top earning land-based book in New Jersey, which does not really shock given its powerful branding, closeness to New Jersey’s and New York’s most important population centres, and of course, its perspective of MetLife Stadium — home of the New York Giants and Jets.
The nation’s third horseracing track, Freehold Raceway, has yet to dip its toe in the sport gambling oceans, but its chances are looking great.
More NJ sportsbooks coming shortly If you believe New Jersey has a lot of sportsbook today, simply wait.
On the land-based front, we don’t expect too much expansion. With the Introduction of the William Hill Sports Book at Tropicana Casino, there is just two candidates left in Atlantic City to start novels. One, Hard Rock Casino, we expect to go live with a retail book this quarter, as Hard Rock has signed a Letter of Intent with Gaming Innovation Group to an omni-channel sportsbook platform.
As mentioned, Freehold Raceway, owned by Penn National Gaming and Greenwood Gambling (owner of Parx Casino in Pennsylvania) is also a prime candidate to enter the land-based sports betting realm.
On the online front, there’s a lot more space to maneuver as each sports gambling license holder is eligible for three branded websites, or skins. Some, such as Monmouth Park and Resorts AC, have surfaced two skins, but many others, including heavyweights Tropicana, Hard Rock Casino, and Golden Nugget, haven’t launched any. Anticipate multiple AC-branded online sportsbooks to pop up at the not-so-distant near future, and also for other businesses such as the Kindred Group (now adapting with Hard Rock Casino) and Australian-based PointsBet (partnered with all the Meadowlands) to also launch online publications in New Jersey.
After the smoke clears it won’t be unheard of to find upwards of 30 online sportsbooks at New Jersey.
Regulations, taxes, and revenue It was only a few short weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court kicked PASPA to the wayside that New Jersey passed sports gambling legislation. The bill passed by unanimous vote in both chambers and has been signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy (who also happened to put the first bet at Monmouth Park later that week) on June 11.
Regulation of this industry was handed off to the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement, the exact same agency that handles oversight for Atlantic City casinos and online gaming sites in New Jersey. Luckily, the state was primed to offer sports gambling for many decades, enabling regulators to launch emergency regulations only two weeks after Murphy penned the sport betting bill into legislation.
New Jersey law mandates that only qualified casinos and racetracks be eligible for a sports gambling license, which online sportsbook operators must be partnered with a license holder. Other points of interest:
The fee for a sports wagering license was put at a minimum of $100,000
The tax rate is set at 8.5percent for land-based venues, and 13 percent for online sites, with horsemen needed to pay an extra 1.25percent to the Division of Local Government Services at the Dept. of Community Affairs.
License holders are limited to three individually branded sites, or skins.
Wagering on college sports is allowed, unless a New Jersey college or college team is involved. Then it’s a no-go.
License holders have a 270-day window (transactional waiver) to operate online sportsbooks at the lack of a physical sportsbook.
New Jersey does not cover an ethics fee to professional sports leagues in exchange for data and league supervision, nor will it likely ever.
In terms of manage, New Jersey novels took $184 million in stakes during September 2018. And out of June — September, the business generated over $40.4 million in revenue. Word is still out on exactly how large the industry will get, since there are still a great deal of books that have not established yet, and many prospective bettors are still unaware of the distinction between offshore and legal sites, or that legal sports betting is even something. Industry analysts see NJ sports gambling topping out at just over $300 million in annual revenue, which might render it an ever-so-slightly larger moneymaker than in Nevada. We are inclined to agree with this investigation.
A brief history of New Jersey sports betting New Jersey’s battle to legalize sports betting within its borders extends all the way back to 2009, when State Sen. Raymond Lesniak introduced sports gambling legislation. His bill would readily pass via voter referendum in 2011, leading then Governor Chris Christie to pass it into law the following year.
Unfortunately there was one massive roadblock, which was the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Amendment (PASPA) of 1992. PASPA, driven by former New York Knick Bill Bradley, illegal sports wagering in all but four states (and really only Nevada). Lately, New Jersey needed a 1 year window in the beginning of PASPA to pass legislation legalizing sports gambling from the state, but political turmoil doomed the campaign. Because of this, New Jersey was effectively shut out of sports betting for the next 25 decades.
Soon after sports gambling regulations were posted in August 2012, professional sports leagues filed a lawsuit against Christie and New Jersey. The next several years were riddled with disappointment because of New Jersey, since it first lost in the district courts, then double at the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Then in June 2014, the state was delivered yet another catastrophic blow, if the U.S. Supreme Court refused to take New Jersey’s allure.
Also in 2014, the constantly staunch gambling proponent Lesniak went to work on new sports gambling legislation that would function as a sort of PASPA workaround. The same result, with New Jersey and Christie once more losing to the leagues in the courts. However, by this time, the prevailing attitude toward sports gambling was starting to show some cracks. Guided by this, New Jersey once again asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its case. This time, it approved, hearing oral arguments in Christie v. NCAA (later Murphy v. NCAA) on December 4, 2017.
Five-and-a-half month later, on May 14, 2018, the Court announced its decision, voting 7-2 which PASPA violated the 10th amendment, and deeming it completely unconstitutional by a 6-3 count. Only a couple of weeks later, New Jersey passed a brand new sports betting bill, and at a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Monmouth Park sportsbook on June 14, 2018, the industry was born.Today, it thrives.
