Steve Smith has regained top spot from the ICC Test batting rankings after leapfrogging India captain Virat Kohli.
Smith missed the third Ashes Test at Headingley however has toppled Kohli following the latter listed a duck in the second innings of India over West Indies in Jamaica.
The Australian direct the way with 904 points a place back to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson in third position on 878 points along with 903 points.
Smith – who has graduated 144, 142 and 92 in his three innings in this Ashes series – could add to his tally through the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford this week although Kohli isn’t back in Evaluation action until India sponsor South Africa in October.
Smith initially became No 1 at December 2015 if Smith was out of action due to his single-family ban following the ball-tampering scandal but he was overtaken by Kohli August 2018.
After finishing a century and two rebounds in four innings in the 2-0 series triumph over West Indies in the Caribbean four locations have climbed in 11th to seventh.
Jason Holder and jasprit Bumrah have risen with Bumrah up from seventh to Holder and third moving from 11th to fourth.
India seamer Bumrah picked up six wickets, including a hat-trick, in West Indies’ first innings at Jamaica, while Windies skipper Holder bagged 5-77 at India’s opening dig.
Australia’s Pat Cummins (908 factors ) tops the standings, followed by South Africa’a Kagiso Rabada (851) along with Bumrah (835), together with Holder and James Anderson tied for fourth (814).
Together with Vernon Philander, Shakib Al Hasan, Ravindra Jadeja and Ben Stokes rounding out the top five in that list holder stays the Top all-rounder.
